Along with winter comes the possibility that school may be closed due to weather conditions.

How the decision is made:

1) The director of transportation looks at the air temperature and the road conditions between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

2) The superintendent is contacted then a decision is made in consultation with the County Road Department and various individuals around the school district area.

3) School is canceled when the temperature reaches minus 20 degrees or road conditions are too poor for buses to operate safely.

4) Wind chill factor may be taken into consideration.

How will you know if school is cancelled?

1) When the decision is made to close schools, the superintendent or designee will send a School Messenger & Alert Sense message via text message and email (You must sign up for these notifications). A message will also appear on the district website.

2) If you drive into the parking lot and only a few cars are present, school has probably been cancelled.

3) If questionable weather conditions exist, please do not drop off your children without checking to make sure school is in session. You may call the district office at 425-3984 or check your messages/inbox.

4) The district Facebook page will also have a message regarding school closure and/or virtual learning.

A “late start” or virtual learning may be implemented.

1) A “late start” school day will be implemented when weather conditions are permissible.  School will begin at 10:00 a.m. and dismissed at the normal time.

2) “Late start” will be announced via Alert Sense and the district website by 6:45 a.m.

3) If weather conditions do not improve and a “late start” isn't feasible, school cancellation will be announced by 9:30 a.m. via Alert Sense and the district website.

4) In case of a “late start”, morning kindergarten and preschool will be cancelled.

5) Virtual learning may be implemented on school closure days. These will also be announced via School Messenger, Alert Sense and Facebook.

How does a school closure effect activities?

1) In most cases, all activities will be canceled.  However, consideration concerning after school activities will be made on a case by case basis taking into consideration the safety of our students, staff, and coaches and the weather conditions later in the day.
