Art 1A
Prerequisites: None
Special Aspects:
Students will e required to supply a sketch pad,
pencils, pens, etc. Some of the materials will be supplied by
the
class.
Abstracts: Will
provide the student with basic understanding of
line, value, shape, design, perspective, center of interest,
line of motion and color. The class will primarily be dedicated
to
sketching and the use of dry media. Art history will be taught.
Art 1B
Prerequisites: Art 1A
Special Aspects:
School will supply the use of acrylic with a $15
art fee. Students may bring their own acrylics or oils and
eliminate the art fee. Students will be required to bring their
own brushes and material to paint on.
Abstracts: Art 1B
will give the student an opportunity to use acrylic or oil
paints. Students will obtain a basic working idea of color and
the mixing of colors to produce a finished product. Art history
will be taught.
Art 2A
Prerequisites: Art 1B,
Special permission
Special Aspects:
Students need to supply their own paints, brushes, etc.
School will supply acrylic paints with a $15 art fee; however,
students at this point need their own acrylic or oil paints.
Abstracts:
Photo-realism will be taught to the students.
Art 2B
Prerequisites: Art,
2A, Special permission
Special Aspects:
Students need to supply their own paints, brushes, etc. School
will supply acrylic paints with a $15 art fee. If the student
had Art 2A the previous semester and has some of his paints
mixed then only a $5 art fee will be charged.
Art 3A and 3B
Prerequisites: Art 2A
& B, Special permission
Special Aspects: The
individual cost of the class may vary according to work done.
Abstracts: Art 3
gives the student an opportunity to improve his or her art skill
on an individual basis. Each student is responsible for each
project, which may vary in length of time depending on the
difficulty of the project. Two or more projects will be produced
each semester.
High School Band
A and B
Prerequisites:
Sufficient prior experience on an applicable musical instrument
or by audition.
Special Aspects: Two
semesters must be taken to obtain credit unless special
permission of the instructor is obtained.
Abstracts: To
provide the opportunity for continued development of musical
talents. This class will expose students to a wide variety of
music; popular, sacred and classical. Students will have the
opportunity to participate in the following activities: pep
band, concerts, music festivals, music clinic, assemblies, and
All-State Groups. These activities provide the student with
knowledge and skills to compete for scholarships. These classes
may be taken more than once.
High School Choir
A and B
Prerequisites: None
Special Aspects:
Should have some vocal music talent. Two continuous semesters
recommended.
Abstracts: Choir is
designed to be a training class as well as a performing group.
Fundamentals of reading music is taught along with voice
development. Members will have the opportunity to participate in
the following activities: concerts, assemblies, clinics, music
festivals and All-State Groups. The choir may also participate
in the school musical. Students will be exposed to a wide
variety of music. These courses may be taken more than once.
Advanced Music
Prerequisites: Previous study
of music for at least 2 years in high school or special permission.
Abstracts: This course studies
advanced music concepts such as music composition and arrangement as well as
the development of more advanced musical competence. This course may be
taken more than once for credit.
Select Choir
Prerequisites:
Approval of Instructor
Special Aspects: Vocal
musical talent required.
Abstracts: Select
choir is oriented toward performance proficiency, and many of
the aspects considered developmental in Choir A, B and C are
expected to be present in Select Choir. This course may be taken
more than once for credit.
Music Appreciation
Prerequisites: None
Special Aspects: This
class can count as an Academic Humanities.
Abstracts: This
class studies the historical and fundamental aspects of music as
well as the various forms and styles of music, including
classical music. The student will listen to, analyze and
critique the various types of music.
Introduction to Theater
Prerequisites: None
Special Aspects: This
course may count as an Academic Humanities.
Abstracts: This
course studies the history of theater, the theater as an
expression of art form, and introduces theatrical production as
an art form. Some dramatic production may be done within the
class, but this is not the primary focus of the course.
Drama
Prerequisites: None
Abstract: This course
emphasizes dramatic production, including plays and musicals. To take the
class one does not have to be in a dramatic production and to be in a
dramatic production one does not have to take this course. This course
does not count as an Academic Humanities. This course may be taken more
than once for credit.
